webforest is a lot of different things. a conduit of self-expression, an exercise in mindfulness, a small hideaway in an enormous internet, a portfolio, a pet project, and a permanently under-construction, ever-changing mass of miscellaneous stuff and junk.
so basically, just another personal website.
webforest was established in april of 2022, when i was barely 19. it's run and kept up by just myself, and it's hosted on neocities. it's made up pretty much exclusively of things i like and things i want to talk about. it might not be anything particularly special, but i do like it. i like being productive (and i probably like it too much) and when i've got the itch to do something, i like to come on here and screw around. if you'd like to hear about the site's purpose more in-depth, this is the site manifesto. [or... it will be, when i make a page for it.]
webforest has gone through a lot of changes in its almost three year existence. prior to 11/16/24, it was called 'webheaven,' and focused a lot more on a nostalgic recreation of the mythologized 'old web.' for all the love i've got for 80s-90s early aughts esthetics, nostalgia for something you never personally experienced isn't a super strong foundation for a personal website. after about a year, it stagnated pretty badly and stopped recieving updates for a time. the old index page is still accessible and kinda cute to look at, though.
it's easy to look back on something you made when you were just a little more inexperienced and point out all of its embarassing flaws - but while webheaven has gone to web heaven (or maybe web hell) i still hold it very fondly in my heart. it was what i wanted to make at the time, and i had fun with it, even if i've chosen to change up the site in recent years.
here's web(heaven/forest) as a baby, only a week after i first made it. and before that - it was nothing.
